Abstract

This paper aims at discussing how The New York Times presents and contextualizes
the attacks exchanged between the two main candidates – Barack Obama and John McCain –, in the 2008 American presidential election. It is based on the theoretical and methodological foundations of Discourse Analysis focusing on discursive strategies employed in order to verify how the voices and other types of discourses are incorporated into the newspaper´s pages.
