Linguistics toll-free telephone call: an action of science popularization
Keywords:
sociolinguistics, science popularization, action research.Abstract
This paper aims to present a proposal of construction of actions of science popularization in the realm of Sociolinguistics. The proposal is based on the principles postulated by Labov (1982 apud CATELLAN, 1996) and Wolfram (1993) concerning the role of the linguist in communicating research findings to society. Criticisms raised by Rajagopalan (2003) to such a task are approached and some solutions are presented in order to deal with the problems that the author points out. To this end, we argue that the merging of three ideas may serve as the foundations for solid actions of science popularization: the concept that Teaching, Research and Extension should be viewed as inseparable; the usage of medias as internet; and the theoretical bases of action-research.Downloads
