The discursive pattern “Fantasy Short Story”: a constructional analysis of short stories by Machado de Assis
Keywords:
Cognitive linguistics, language comprehension, mental simulation.Abstract
Embodied theories of language propose that word meaning is inextricably tied to – grounded in – mental representations of perceptual, motor, and affective experiences of the world. Much of research on situation models in narrative comprehension suggests that comprehenders behave as though they were in the narrated situation rather than outside of it. This study aims to demonstrate how these situation models are configured. For this purpose, we will conduct a constructional analysis of the short story “Um esqueleto” by Machado de Assis.Downloads
