Abstract

Our work analyzes how the enunciation of Expresso newspaper constructs the
representations of Brazilian woman in the Portuguese imaginary. Therefore, we present the view of Theories of Journalism and News Production about the social role of journalism and journalists and the reason why the news are the way they are. Then, we present the assumptions of Discourse Analysis Theory and how we use them in our study. After that, we analyze the article “Morar ao lado da prostituição”, published on February 7th, 2009, in the digital version of Expresso
newspaper. We point out the main meanings identified in some discursive formations. Finally, we show how these results associate Brazilian woman with clandestinity.
