Abstract

Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen was an attentive reader of Rainer Maria Rilke’s works. One of the existentialism pioneers, Rilke proposed a kind of lyricism to metaphysics themes, especially to questions on death and God. In fact, the poet of Dia do mar will find in Rilke an aesthete related to the world of the objects, towards a concrete universe in which the sacredness reveals itself into epiphany. Thus, Sophia’s poetry will be emphasized by a constant inquiring about the mystery of human existence, expressed in neo-symbolism language of great poetic impact. The author will spread human emotions in the world of the objects , what will
make it sensitive and alive.
