The Gingerbread House: rereading Hansel and Gretel
Keywords:
fairy tales, contemporaneous literature, Robert Coover, short story, intertextuality.Abstract
The aim of this paper is to show, through intertextual relations between two tales,
how Coover (2000) rereads the renowned fairy tale Hansel and Gretel breaking the reader’s expectations in relation to the traditional tale, leading him to new meanings, which raise more questions and critics about the contemporary world. The American author seems to want to rescue the reader from the traditional tales by showing other possibilities to construct the world.
