Abstract

This study is part of a MA dissertation that analyzes four virtual Orkut communities whose topics permeate the writing and rewriting of texts. The study is done in order to observe the peculiarities of these texts which circulate in the digital world, and also aims to discuss the writing practices on this site. By adopting the concept that “Writing is to offer something to be read” (MARCUSCHI, 2005, p. 13), the compositions posted on this social network can be classified as
texts that were written for various interlocutors. The compositions allow us to analyze the level of textual production: the criteria used to evaluate these productions and even the view these people have about the act of writing.
