Interface as language
Keywords:
applied linguistics, digital literacy, human-computer interaction.Abstract
The goal of this paper is to consider the computer interface as a language, and explore a possible bias by which applied linguistics can study the relationship between language and
technology in continuity, not as two unconnected fields. We assumed that the interaction with a graphical interface is a dialog between user and machine in which language is the interface itself. In this paper, preliminary results are discussed and were obtained by observing students in introductory course on computer science taught in a telecenter in Campinas.
