A grammar view for language experience

This paper is concerned with the following question: how and why did grammar manuals start being essential to a culture? The History shows that they started in Greece in the Hellenistic period, in a moment of collapse of normative aspects of the language. The premise is that a grammar manual would not have been developed in a society in which metalinguistic
awareness was absent. Besides this awareness, the language was rich enough to produce creations that remained across centuries. Such creations represent personal and reflective aspects that exist in the linguistic expression.
