Abstract

This paper provides an assessment of the semantic classifications for conditional clauses. Although the so-called classifications are said to have a semantic nature, they also take
pragmatic factors into account when setting up conditional types. In addition, these proposals do not seem to agree whether the classification should consider the conditional clause itself or the type of clause it is related to. The present paper claims that the classification should consider the conditional clause itself and proposes a review on the current classifications based on Functional Discourse Grammar theory.
