Abstract

In this paper, I discuss reflexive predicates through the observation of syntactic-semantic properties of the reflexive clitic se in Brazilian Portuguese, which is the true reflexive of this language. This reflexive clitic is different from other clitics and the relationship among them is coreference which occurs through feature identity rather than a reflexivity relation. The absence of identity among the features of se and its antecedent does not interfere in the grammaticality of sentences since the agreement occurs between DP and the reflexive clitic. This agreement occurs in a small clause configuration and later between the head, v*, and the reflexive clitic that, having its features valuated, is able to value the ones of the v*.
