Abstract

This paper aims to present some notes on the phonology of Guató and lists of words and phrases proposed by Castelnau (1851), Rondon (1938) and Wilson (1959). The comparisons
made refer to identified consonantal and vocalic segments, identical vocalic sequences, syllabic patterns and possible codas. The data from these authors were compared with current data, which were collected by me and other three collaborators through fieldwork (POSTIGO, 2009). Guató language in relation to genetic filiation is classified as belonging to Guató family and Macro-Jê language trunk (RODRIGUES, 1986). The Guató population is estimated at 370 indigenous and live in Uberaba village on Ínsua island between the lakes Gaíva and Uberaba, in high Pantanal that belongs to the city of Corumbá in Mato Grosso do Sul.
