Abstract

This study aims to discuss the new social demands in the educational field related to the ethical and efficient use of information to produce cohesive and coherent argumentative essays. Therefore, the reflections presented are based on the studies of Vygostky (2010), Bakhtin (2006), Campello (2003) and Demo (2000). These authors contribute to the debate on Portuguese language teaching from an interactionist and dialogical perspective. Through modules V and VII of the National High School Exam Grading Manual (INEP, 2019a, 2019b) and the microdata from the exam results between 2020-2022 triennium (INEP, [2024]), this research analyzes high school students’ writing fluency based on their essay evaluation. Then, this study suggests ways to adapt Portuguese language teachers’ pedagogical practices to meet the demands of knowledge production in the information society.
