Abstract

This paper explores the construction of ethos within the framework of Popular Linguistics, focusing on how non-linguists use social media to produce and disseminate linguistic knowledge. Grounded in the theories of Maingueneau (2008; 2020) and Paveau (2018), the study examines how digital platforms facilitate the negotiation of ethos, blending ideological, performative, and technical elements. The interaction between identity construction and political discourse is particularly analyzed through the lens of debates on neutral pronouns, revealing how such discussions reinforce or challenge socio-cultural norms. The article highlights the dynamic and collective nature of ethos in digital environments, showcasing its relevance to contemporary discourse studies.
