Abstract

This article uses the artistic utterance Suffragette (2015) as an object of analysis to understand how the clashes of social voices and forces representing conflicting ideologies occur within a society, in this case, feminism that fights for women's suffrage and the misogyny of a systematically patriarchal society. It is understood that the film, as an artistic utterance, carries within itself the ideologies of reality, highlighting the constitutive and responsive relationship between art and life, as a reflection and refraction of one another. It is observed how, within the narrative, ideological signs are resignified when used by subjects of contrasting ideologies when placed in the arena of struggles of language and social communication. The study is based on the theory of the Bakhtin Circle, in addition to bringing feminist scholars to deal with issues related to the work's feminism.
