Abstract

In the light of new perspectives on literary studies, research into women’s literature is proving relevant, not only in its aesthetic aspects, but also in its political dimension, insofar as these works reveal previously silenced voices and points of view. In this context, the writer Júlia Lopes de Almeida was recognized as an exponent of literature during the Brazilian belle époque and a debater of the female condition. This article aims to analyze the use of the epistolary genre in the works Livro das Donas e Donzelas (1906) and Correio da Roça (1913), focusing on the use of self-discovery through temporal movement (Altman, 1975). It is proposed that the passage of time in these two works is structural to the process of reflection and learning by the characters and the readers about themselves.
