The goal of this paper is to describe and explain the experiential basis of metaphors used in Brazilian soccer. The data consist of 150 tokens of metaphorical expressions collected from broadcasting soccer matches on Brazilian television in the years 2013–2014. The analysis is qualitative and based on the theoretical tools of Cognitive Linguistics. We aim to analyze metaphorical expressions under the hypothesis that they are based on our physical experience with our bodies, our perception, our movements, our manipulation of objects, and our interaction with our environment.
