Ideas on research funding in the area of Letters

This text discusses the question of research funding in the field of Letters highlighting the following points: 1. the relationship between research funding and specific scientific policies, 2. the necessity to legitimize the Humanities as a part of science, 3. the risk of accepting an heteronomous view to the field as far as funding is concerned, 4. the necessity to conceive of funding as subordinated to the everyday practice of research and not the opposite.
