Abstract

This article, which is based on an ongoing doctoral research project in Applied Linguistics focusing on Language and Technology, discusses the growing mobilization of neo-fascist groups in digital media within the context of cognitive capitalism. To this end, it analyzes the trajectory of the image of 'Pepe the Frog,' which became one of the main icons of the American far-right during Donald Trump's election in 2016. We also briefly recall the case of the Movimento 5 stelle in Italy, one of the first cases of digital marketing being used by the far right, and  Steve Bannon, chief strategist of Donald Trump's campaign and founder of "The Movement," whose operational model inspired other movements in different parts of the world, such as Brexit (in England), the Alt-Right (in the United States), Vox (in Spain), and Bolsonarism (in Brazil).
