Abstract

We present a didactic proposal for a podcast creation that was designed to promote a collaborative learning process of oral and literate practices aimed at teaching practice and to lead the undergraduates of Language and Literature Teacher Education course to reflect on that learning process. We will analyze focusing strategies identified in the script and expressed in the podcast audio in order to demonstrate that prosodic focusing, in particular, is part of strategies (to highlight or emphasize words or parts of the utterances) aimed at engaging the listeners (to attract and maintain their attention). These strategies also project the speaker (the undergraduate student, in this case) as a teacher who selects pieces of information and teaches his/her audience. The analysis of focusing supports the defense of promoting oral practices as part of the teacher training process, alongside academic literate practices typically valued at the university.
