Abstract

This study is part of the dissertation “Lexical study of indigenous names in the region of Aquidauana, Miranda and Corumbá in Mato Grosso do Sul: the rural toponomy” and aims to present some morphosyntactic notes about the process of formation of indigenous toponyms, Tupi and Guarani, in those regions. The data were collected from topographic maps in scale 1: 125,000 and statistical Rural Maps provided by the IBGE website. In order to develop this study, the taxonomic toponymic model proposed by Dick (1990) was adopted.. The theoretical
background on Morphology was based on Cunha and Cintra (1985), Rio Torto (1998), Basil (2000), Costa (2002) and Basil (2009) in order to substantiate the formation process of the terms presented in the analysis.
