Effects of Meaning of Reported Speech Forms in Web News

Assuming that discourse and subject are constitutively heterogeneous and that reported speech forms are linked to stable social trends of interpretation, this work is meant to examine the effects of meaning that different reported speech forms produce in a piece of news published on Carta Capital magazine website and in another piece published on Veja magazine website. These two pieces of news are about President Dilma Rousseff’s official pronouncement that was aired on the radio and on television on January 23, 2013. Thus, once compared how the President’s pronouncement was cited in both magazines, this study intends specifically to investigate and analyze if the use of reported speech forms in these pieces of news follow the ideological position of the press organ.
