Abstract

This article aims at discussing two aspects of the film Narradores de Javé (2003): the different ways of narrating; and the dialogues it establishes with the context in the moment of its production. We start from the perspective of understanding the movie as a document, i.e. as a source of study on a specific context and as a discourse. We then propose to understand and discuss what the film narrates, how it is done and the “surroundings” involved in the moment of its production, with which it dialogues – in the Bakhtinian meaning of the term. Therefore, as a support for our analysis, we base our study on works that address the relationship between cinema and history and those that approach dialogue and discourse theory. Our reflections about the film showed that the ways chosen to narrate the film are allegories for what the movie intends to tell and discuss.
