Abstract

This paper aims to study the journalistic discourse. For this purpose, it assumes the premise that the argumentation is a constitutive dimension of the discourse and focuses on the identification between the newspaper and its reader, which is built in the front page by ethos and pathos., Also, it is based on the theoretical principles of the discursive-argumentative approach as proposed by Amossy (2006, 2007) and Mosca (2007). The analysed data consist of newspaper’s front pages taken from Correio da Manhã and O Globo published on April 2nd and 4th Finally, it concludes that the difference between the composition of the two front pages shows two regimes of enunciation that legitimate two controversial discourses: Correio
da Manhã, the participatory newspaper, and O Globo, the spectator newspaper.
