Abstract

Although the linguistic system, according to Saussure (2006 [1916]), admits the possibilities of symbolic (re)creation, the analog relationship that bases these possibilities is characterized by being singular, ephemeral, contingent, and by being related to a language event. This is because it relates to the subject that (itself) enunciates (when saying) and to what comes by language associations. Thus, as Arnaldo Antunes’ writing is characterized by a linguistic experimentation through symbolic (re) creation, it seems pertinent to analyze how this process, which I name “playing with the symbolic”, occurs. This play characterizes the Arnaldian style. The analysis is based on the principles of the Linguistics of Enunciation on the studies by Émile Benveniste, and on some aspects of Morphology related to word formation.
