Abstract

This paper aims at proposing an investigation of the most frequent simple terms, fixed and semi-fixed expressions in the subarea of Social Anthropology of Civilization in Portuguese
and their corresponding terms in English, found in the work The Brazilian People: formation and meaning of Brazil, written by the anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro and translated into English
by Gregory Rabassa. The methodology used is the Corpus-Based Translation (BAKER, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996; CAMARGO, 2005, 2007), Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004; TOGNINI-BONELLI, 2001) and Terminology (BARROS, 2004; KRIEGER; FINATO, 2004).
