Abstract

In this paper, we investigated the presidential discourse in order to observe the metaphors used to maintain a public image of credibility, from the concept of political morality. The speech of the ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was analysed, which was given to Brazilian society and chiefs of state or government at the 4th Global Forum on Corruption, in Brasilia, June 2005. The theoretical discussion was based on studies of Charteris-Black (2011), van Dijk (2010), Fairclough (2009), Chilton (2004), Lakoff e Jonhson (1980, 1999, 2003).
