The two fi rst volumes of the Gramática do Português (45 chapters, 2.405 pages) were published in 2013. The third and last volume (containing 21 chapters) is in preparation. These volumes are the product of a project which is housed at the Centro de Linguística da Universidade de Lisboa. This project, in turn, was commissioned by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which also provided its funding. The Gramática do Português is a reference work, and it benefi ts from the results of the most recent research in both general and Portuguese linguistics. This allows it to convey in-depth and current information on the most important areas of the grammar of contemporary Portuguese, while at the same time making it accessible to an educated public with diversifi ed interests, but not necessarily specialized in linguistics.
