Abstract

This paper intends to analyze the self-help discourse to teenagers in a linguistic perspective. We are based on studies of the French School of Discourse Analysis, specifically in the enunciative-discursive perspective developed by Dominique Maingueneau (2008b, 2008c, 2013). The idea is to examine how the linguistic maneuvers of this discourse promote strategic effects between enunciator and enunciatee. We selected as corpus three editions published by the magazine Capricho between January and March 2015. The analysis shows that the ethos of the self-help discourse to teenagers indicates effects of authority, in the manifestation of certainty and truth, which characterizes its domain, and of spontaneity, in search of engagement.
