Abstract

This article examines some paratextual elements of three works that are part of the Collection of PNBE, in the High School group. The chosen works are: Balé do pato, by Paulo Mendes Campos; Cala a boca e me beija, by Alcione Araujo and João do Rio – uma antologia, selection of Luis Martins, compilations containing chronicles of the authors. Data is analyzed as prefaces, dust jackets or dust covers, covers, spines, back covers, following the established theories and studies by Genette (2009). The paratextual elements were discussed as an instrument for reading the books. The analyzed data reiterate the importance of the reader evidenced in the paratexts and highlight possible links between author and reader, establishing a fidelity to future texts.
