LITERATURE AND FRONTIER FROM A TRANSLINGUAL PERSPECTIVE IN “LOS DESTERRADOS” BY HORACIO QUIROGA

The objective of this work is to reflect on the concepts of border and language from an analysis of the story “Los Desterrados” by Horácio Quiroga. From this perspective, the constitution of the border space represented in the work will be taken into consideration as a fundamental element to understand the being of the individuals who live there. In this sense, it is of utmost importance to highlight transculturation as an object of cultural transformation resulting from contact between two different cultures, namely, Brazilian and Argentine and between their languages, respectively, Portuguese and Spanish. Starting from the precept that understanding literature is inseparable from understanding society, this work also has an important focus on translanguaging by thinking about linguistic issues as local practices through which subjects act in the world, more specifically considering Portuñol as representative of the consolidation of a border identity.
