Error and self-repair in the child’s relation to language

This article aims to reflect on the child’s relation to language, supported by the theory developed by De Lemos (1992, 2002). In the previous study, which investigated the error and self-repair in the speech of a Brazilian child (M), two possible movements in the language acquisition process were highlighted. These movements are explored in this paper: a) when message refers to itself and b) when message refers to the code. The theoretical framework of Jakobson is the used in this interactionist approach. The results show that the child does not take
the language as an object in the same way the adult does, because he is not in the language in the same way the adult is. In addition, the parallelistic game shows how the relations in language are established and arranged in a particular and unique way in M’s speech.
