The advancement of research and investments in the pharmaceutical industry gained prominence in the media dedicated to promote new medicines and treatments. This context is related to the influence of economic factors coupled with social, cultural and ideological varieties in the newsmaking process. In order to verify this phenomenon, this article analyzes the journalistic discourse in Veja magazine in articles on beauty. From the categories of Discourse Analysis, it is
possible to identify how the market economy is linked to the discursive materiality in journalism. This relation creates a favorable representation of drugs consumption.
